Sometimes when a murder occurs which is so heinous and horrific, it's hard to accept that the brutal beast who committed this atrocity was once a baby... but they were. Once they were sweet, innocent, kind and that during a (hopefully) happier time, when they swung on a swing, played with their pals and the greatest stresses in their life was when they'd be fed, what time they'd sleep or who'd wipe away their dirty doo-doo's, that murder was the last thing on their mind.
So what did many of the world's most evil people, whether serial killers, mass murderers or demonic despots look like as children, and is it possible to see evil in their eyes? What follows are the actual baby/chil photos of the world's most famous murderers.
#1 - Aileen Wuornos; portrayed by Charlize Theron in the film Monster, she was a prostitute and serial killer who killed seven suspected "customers" between 1989-90 by shooting them at point blank range and robbing them. In court she claimed "justifiable homicide" and that each murder was committed in self-defence, but this defence was rejected and Aileen was executed by lethal injection on 9th October 2002. For her final meal she asked for a single black coffee.
#2 - Charles Manson; although never convicted of committing a murder himself, Charles Manson was the leader of the quasi-religious cult "The Manson Family" also known as "Helter Skelter", who in the late 1960's had his devotees commit nine murders, in four locations, over five weeks, totalling seven people, including (most famously) the murder of actress Sharon Tate. Charles Manson is currently serving nine life sentences for "conspiracy to commit murder".
#3 - Dennis Nilsen; dubbed Britain's most notorious serial killer, Nilsen murdered fifteen (mostly homeless) young men and attempted to kill seven others, all during the five years he worked at a West London job centre. Fearing that these young boys would love him and leave him, Nilsen strangled them, and then dressed, shaved and propped their rotting corpses up on the sofa, as if they were both watching television. #4 - Graham Young; at the tender age of 14, amateur chemist Graham Young (whose life story is featured in "The Young Poisoner's Handbook") started hiding deadly poisons in his family's food and drink, to see what would happen, many got ill, some hallucinated, others their hair fell out, but his experiments and life came to an abrupt end in 1962 when he killed his step mother Molly using Antimony. Young was sent to Broadmoor Psychiatric Prison, but in 1971 was deemed mentally fit to re-enter society... and subsequently went on to poison another 70 people, 2 of whom died.
#5 - Dr Harold Shipman; dubbed "Dr Death", Dr Shipman is widely regarded as one of the world's most prolific serial killers in recorded history. Following the traumatic death of his mother from lung cancer when he was just 17, Harold Shipman (during his time as a GP in Hyde and Todmorden) would euthanize 217 elderly (mostly female) patients by a lethal injection of morphine, which oddly mirrored the way his mother died. Dr Shipman hanged himself in Wakefield Prison on 13th January 2004. It is believed his victims could total as many as 400+.
#6 - Heinrich Himmler; as one of the most powerful men in Nazi Germany as well as being directly responsible for the Holocaust, Himmler personally oversaw the murder of six million Jews, 200-500,000 Romani gypsies, as well as the disabled, homosexual, intellectuals and anyone who didn't fit the Aryan ideal. During the Third Reich, an estimated 11-14 million innocent people died.
#7 - Adolf Hitler; as "De Führer" (which translates as "leader" or "guide") of the Nazi regime, Adolf Hitler personally orchestrated the genocide an estimated 8 million "Untermenschen", people who he deemed as "sub-humans" in his purpose-built concentration camps, as well as 19.3 million people and POW's. During the six years of World War 2, an estimated 29 million soldiers and civilians died. On 30th April 1945, Hitler committed suicide in a bunker in Berlin.
#8 - Jeffrey Dahmer; known as "The Milwaukee Cannibal", between 1978-91 Dahmer raped, murdered and dismembered 17 young man and boys, often dining on their flesh, preserving their skulls as trophies and having sex with the dead bodies. As a day job, Jeffrey Dahmer worked as a chocolate mixer in a sweet factory, upon his arrest, a dismembered head was found in his work's locker. #9 - John Wayne Gacy; murdered an estimated 33 teenage boys between 1972-78, with 26 of his young victims buried in the crawl space under his home, 3 more buried elsewhere and the last 4 were chopped up and thrown away into the Des Plaines river. As well as being a builder and a manager of a KFC, John Wayne Gacy also worked as a children's entertainer and clown.
#10 - Myra Hindley; along with Ian Brady, dubbed "The Moors Murderers" Myra Hindley murdered five children aged 10-17 - Pauline Reade, John Kilbride, Keith Bennett, Lesley Ann Downey and Edward Evans - and buried them in unmarked graves in the Saddleworth Moor. Only three of their five victims graves have been found to the never-ending distress of the victim's families. Regrettably both Hindley & Brady are still alive, serving life sentences. If you've ever wondered what HIndley & Brady's favourite drink was? Unfortunately it wasn't arsenic.
#11 - Osama Bin Laden; (full name - Usama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden) was a Saudi Arabian national from a wealthy family*, he is the founder of the Jihadist militant group al-Qaeda who claimed responsibility for the 9/11 attacks. In the 1980's, the US government via the CIA funded Bin Laden's Afghan rebels with $3billion worth of assault weapons, RPG's, landmines and explosives, all of which are currently being used against the US, UK and Allied military in Afghanistan, who are fighting against Bin Laden's al-Qaeda. From 1999 to his death on 2nd May 2011, Osama Bin Laden always featured on the FBI's notorious Ten Most Wanted List.
#12 - Peter Sutcliffe; dubbed "The Yorkshire Ripper", murdered thirteen women and attempted to kill seven others between 1975–1980. Many of his victims were prostitutes, but some were simply women walking alone, who he'd strike unconscious with a ball-peen hammer, before violently stabbing in the head, neck and chest with a knife. When questioned by Police, Sutcliffe said that God had sent him on a mission to kill prostitutes. Having lost an eye during a fight at Broadmoor Psychiatric Prison, Sutcliffe was later deemed mentally fit to be released from psychiatric care and is now serving a whole life sentence in HMP Frankland (Durham). Oddly, Peter Sutcliffe came from West Riding in Yorkshire which seems a popular place for serial killers to grow up.
* Have you ever bought a soft/alcoholic drink in a can? Or munched on chewing gum? Well, I'm sorry to say but you've helped fund al-Qaeda, as part of Bin Laden's terrorist atrocities were self-funded through his personal family fortune, the money of which was made using Guar Gum (of which the Bin Laden's own the bulk of the world's supply) and the patent for the convex base on the bottom of each can which helps retain it's fizz and freshness. Enjoy!
